BTSF World’s programmes include activities on two main themes: food safety and plant health; and animal health and welfare. They address three world regions: Africa and the ENP area; South and Central America and the Caribbean; and Asia and the Pacific.

Its main purpose is to help developing countries set food safety systems and animal health conditions to a level that contributes to their economic development, while also providing the conditions for safe food production. BTSF World also has the particularity that it is aimed at food producers and farmers, as well as governmental officials

BTSF World has two types of activities: regional workshops and STM where experts visit a particular country to help solve a particular issue.


The main topics covered by BTSF World have been, up to now:

  • Animal health and welfare in Africa and ENP countries
  • Animal health and welfare in Asia and the Pacific
  • Animal health and welfare in South, Central America and the Caribbean
  • Food safety and plant health in Africa and ENP countries
  • Food safety and plant health in Asia and the Pacific
  • Food safety and plant health in South, Central America and the Caribbean
  • International standards setting bodies (ISSB)


Currently, BTSF World is organising and implementing training activities in non-EU countries

  • To improve and strengthen the SPS framework


Who can Participate

BTSF World is aimed at food producers and farmers, as well as governmental officials.
