BTSF Non-EU

BTSF Non-EU’s programmes include activities on two main themes: food safety and plant health; and animal health and welfare. They address three world regions: Africa and the ENP area; South and Central America and the Caribbean; and Asia and the Pacific.

Its main purpose is to help developing countries set food safety systems and animal health conditions to a level that contributes to their economic development, while also providing the conditions for safe food production. BTSF Non-EU also has the particularity that it is aimed at food producers and farmers, as well as governmental officials.

BTSF Non-EU has two types of activities: regional workshops and STM where experts visit a particular country to help solve a particular issue.


The main topics covered by BTSF Non-EU have been, up to now:

  • Animal health and welfare in Africa and ENP countries
  • Animal health and welfare in Asia and the Pacific
  • Animal health and welfare in South, Central America and the Caribbean
  • Food safety and plant health in Africa and ENP countries
  • Food safety and plant health in Asia and the Pacific
  • Food safety and plant health in South, Central America and the Caribbean
  • International standards setting bodies (ISSB)

Currently, BTSF Non-EU is organising and implementing training activities in non-EU countries:

  • To improve and strengthen the SPS framework


Who can Participate

BTSF Non-EU is aimed at food producers and farmers, as well as governmental officials.
